General
How do I mark a state as visited?
Open the States tab. Each state row has a toggle on the right — flip it on to mark it visited. The state will appear highlighted on the map.
What are State Facts?
Every state detail page includes a State Facts section at the top showing the capital city, year of statehood, area (sq mi), population, state bird, state flower, and official nickname. These facts appear for both visited and unvisited states.
How do I add photos to a state?
Tap a visited state to open its detail page, then tap the + button in the Photos section. You can import from your Camera Roll or choose an album. Photos are stored on your device only.
How do I add a visit date?
On the state detail page, tap the + next to "Visits" to log a trip with an optional start and end date. You can record multiple trips to the same state.
How do I add a city and see it on the map?
Open a state's detail page and tap the + in the Cities section. As you type, autocomplete suggestions appear. Select a city to pin it. Tap the pin in the list to jump to it on the map.
How do I set my home state?
Open a state's detail page and tap the house icon in the top-right corner. It highlights your home state with a special icon throughout the app.
How do I share my visited states?
Tap the share icon (↑) in the top-right corner of the States tab (on iPhone) or the sidebar toolbar (on iPad). The app generates a visual image showing your visited states and states still to visit, each with the state flag and name. You can save or share it anywhere.
How do I share a state's photo collage?
Open a visited state that has photos, then tap the share icon in the top-right corner. This generates a collage of that state's photos.
Will I lose my data if I delete the app?
Yes — all data (visited states, photos, cities, visits, bucket list) is stored locally on your device. Deleting the app removes all associated data permanently. There is no cloud backup at this time.
Stats & Achievements
What is the Stats tab?
The Stats tab (fourth tab) gives you a full overview of your travels:
• A circular progress ring showing how many of the 50 states you've visited.
• Overview stats — total states, cities explored, photos added, trips logged, and achievements earned.
• A Progress by Region bar chart breaking down visited states by US census region (Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, South, West).
• A States First Visited by Year bar chart showing how your travels have grown over time.
• An Achievements section listing all 16 milestones.
What are Achievements?
Achievements are 16 milestones that unlock automatically as you visit states. They range from First Step (mark your first state) to All 50 States!, plus special ones like Founding 13, Four Corners, Great Lakes Explorer, Coast to Coast, Aloha Spirit, Last Frontier, and more. Locked achievements are shown in grey so you can see what's coming next.
iPad
How does the app work on iPad?
On iPad the States tab uses a split-view layout:
• Left sidebar — the full states list with toggles, a filter bar, a search field, and toolbar buttons for sharing and appearance.
• Right panel (top half) — the interactive US map, always visible, highlighting whichever state is selected.
• Right panel (bottom half) — the selected state's details. Unvisited states show State Facts only; visited states show State Facts plus Visits, Cities, and Photos.
How do I select a state on iPad?
Tap any state row in the left sidebar. The map highlights that state and its details appear in the bottom-right panel. You can tap visited and unvisited states — unvisited states show their State Facts so you can explore before you go.
How do I deselect a state and zoom the map back out on iPad?
Tap the currently selected state row again to deselect it. Alternatively, tap the expand-arrows button (⤢) in the top-right corner of the map to zoom out and clear the selection.
How do I filter the states list on iPad?
A segmented filter bar sits at the top of the left sidebar with three options: All (default), Visited, and Not Visited. The filter works together with the search field so you can, for example, search for "New" within only visited states.
Bucket List & Flights
How does the Bucket List work?
Open the Bucket List tab and tap the + next to any state in the "Add States" section. Bucket-listed states appear at the top. Tap a state to search for flights. Swipe left on a bucket list state to remove it.
How do I set up flight search?
Tap the ✈ icon in the Bucket List toolbar. You'll need two things:
1. Your home airport IATA code (e.g., JFK, LAX, ORD).
2. A free SerpApi API key from serpapi.com (free plan includes 100 searches/month — no credit card required).
How do I see stop details for a flight?
In the flight results list, tap the ▾ chevron on the right side of any flight row to expand it. You'll see each segment's departure/arrival times, airline, flight number, aircraft, and layover duration and airport.
How do I book a flight?
Expand a flight row and tap Book on Google Flights, or swipe the row from left to right to reveal the blue Book action. Either option opens Google Flights pre-filled with your route and date so you can complete the booking.
