States Visited does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. Everything you enter — visited states, photos, city names, travel dates, and preferences — is stored exclusively on your device and is never sent to the developer or any advertising network.
1. Information Stored on Your Device
The following data is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData and UserDefaults frameworks:
- States you have marked as visited
- Visit dates (start and end) you enter
- Photos you add to each state
- City names and their map coordinates
- States on your Bucket List
- Your home state preference
- Appearance settings (light/dark/system mode)
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it (e.g., using the Share sheet to export your states summary image).
2. Photo Library Access
States Visited requests access to your Photo Library only when you choose to import photos into a state. Photos are copied into the app's local storage on your device. They are never uploaded to any server.
You can revoke Photo Library access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos.
3. Flight Search (Optional Feature)
Third-party serviceIf you choose to use the flight search feature, the app sends the following information to SerpApi (serpapi.com) to retrieve Google Flights results:
- Your home airport IATA code (e.g., "JFK")
- The destination airport IATA code
- The selected departure date
- Your SerpApi API key (stored only on your device)
This data is transmitted to SerpApi's servers solely to perform the flight search. No other personal information is included in these requests. Please review SerpApi's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle query data.
The flight search feature is entirely optional. If you do not enter a SerpApi API key, no network requests of this kind are made.
4. Map Data
The Map tab uses Apple's MapKit framework to render US state outlines and city pins. MapKit may transmit anonymous tile-request data to Apple's servers as part of normal map rendering. This is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. States Visited does not request your device's GPS location.
5. Analytics and Advertising
States Visited contains no analytics, crash reporting, advertising SDKs, or tracking of any kind. Your usage of the app is never monitored or reported.
6. Data Deletion
All app data is stored on your device. To delete it, simply delete the app from your iPhone. All associated data — visited states, photos, cities, and preferences — will be permanently removed.
7. Children's Privacy
States Visited is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
If this Privacy Policy changes materially (for example, if a new feature involves data collection), the updated policy will be posted here with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
